50 Reasons Why Android Is Brilliant at Gaming

Many Android users worldwide have had to watch in jealousy as their iPhone friends flaunted their gaming prowess like they were better than us.  The day may finally have come when Android users can stand up and finally say they can game with the best of them as well.

Public opinion may have considered Android phones inferior in the quality and graphics enjoyed by the iPhone users or even WebOS users, but you would be wrong. The video below shows off 50 brilliant games, some which are graphically very impressive, running on a Motorola Droid with the advantage of physical buttons.

Maybe this will inspire more developers to start pumping out even better games for the platform. With Google also having a presence at the Game Developers Conference 2010 (GDC), things can only keep on getting better for Android. Video after the break.

Apple roundup, iPad is finally here

So its been a hectic few hours. Apple has finally unleashed its iPad tablet. Heres the things you need to know. First of all its has 9.7 inch capacitive screen with full multi-touch capabilities. Its resolution is 1024 x 768 meaning that everything just looks crisp and clear. Swiping, gesturing, the whole lot. Its powered by a custom Apple A4 processor running at 1GHz which should last for around 10 hours of full use or a month idle. Every iPad will be Wi-Fi n enabled with Bluetooth connectivity however there will also be three models which will utilize 3G. Three storage capacities will be available. 16GB, 32GB and 63GB. Other features include accelerometer, compass and syncing via USB to a Mac or PC.
On the software side, it seems to be running a modified version of the iPhone OS with full compatibility with all current iPhone apps which are upscaled for the higher resolution screen of the iPad. There will also be some exclusive iPad apps which will take advantage of the extra horses running around inside such as new games courtesy of Gamesloft and EA. iWorks will also be available which will address the productivity side of the device.
Another major software feature is the iBook application. Apple will be launching its very own eBook store which means it is going to be competing directly with Amazon and its Kindle. The iBook app will allow users to directly purchase books from the iPad. The cool features of the app is the ability to change font of the writing making it easier to read. Coupled with smooth transition effects, this easily trumps the kindle. However how battery life compares is another matter.
One place where the iPad excels is in the web browser. It is running a customized version of Mobile Safari which has been very well adapted for this screen. Scrolling is very smooth as well as page rendering which is top notch. One thing missing is Flash. It seems again that Apple has deprived its users of Flash content on the web.
The major noticeable feature that is not included in this device is the ability to multi-task. With other devices such as the HP Slate able to do full multi-tasking with Windows 7, its still boggles our minds why Apple has still left this out of both the iPhone and now the iPad. Maybe if we wish enough, an update may change this. Also there are no cameras meaning that there will be no video conferencing from this device.
Lastly the launch date of the device is 60 days away for the Wi-FI only models and 90 days away for the Wi-Fi with 3G models. With pricing very affordable at the lower range of the lineup, just starting at $499 for the 16GB model, i can see this becoming a very popular mainstream device. Full pricing details in the images after the break. A full Apple iPad review to come soon. Keep posted for more details.

OFFICIAL Availabitly and pricing announced of the iPad

The Apple iPad will be shipping in 60 days. There will be six different models. Three with 3G and Wi-Fi and three with just Wi-Fi. The base model will be starting at $499 with 16GB of storage. The highest end model will cost $829 which will have 64GB of memory with 3G. There will also be some cool accesories such a dock which has a full QWERTY keyboard as its base making a hybrid desktop like machine. Similar to the hybrid laptop from Lenovo at CES.

OFFCIAL iPad data plan pricing revealed

Specific iPad models will come with 3G on ATT. I know this is not the carrier you were hoping for but the pricing looks pretty good. For $14.99 you get 250mb of data, for $29.99 you get unlimited data. Also you get free use of ATT wireless hotspots. The best thing about this is that there is no contract. Can cancel anytime you want.

OFFICIAL iPad has its own iBook store and iWorks

Apple is directly competing with Amazon by launching its own ebook store for the iPad which will allow iPad users to directly download ebooks to their iPad for viewing. The iBook app will allow users to change the font of the writing which is usefull but with incredibly smooth page transitions, will out do its e-ink competitors. Aswell as this, Apple is launching iWork for the iPad which will allow access to a full office suite to pretty much make anything from spreadsheets to presentations. Very throughly done with a excellent gui for easy navigation with lots of options to choose from. This is turning out to be a device to fully replace the Mac.

OFFICIAL Apple iPad specs, Apple A4 proccesor powered tablet

The iPad is a 0.5 inch thick tablet only weighing 1.5 pounds. A 9.7 inch full capacitive display with full multi-touch support. Maybe the most impressive thing is that Apple is pushing its own silicon by using its own 1GHz A4 processor. Also the expected specs like Bluetooth, WiFI n, accelerometer, compass,. The big point is that Apple is claiming 10 hours battery life which is pretty impressive as the iPad will be compatible with all apps in the store right now. Even games as the iPad is able to scale up the image to full screen. It looks pretty sweet.

Android 2.0 update for HTC Hero delayed

Earlier in the year HTC confirmed that a Android 2.0 update was in the works for a Febuary roll out. However leaked document from a carrier in Ireland has it that it's been delayed till March. This obviously is bad news for all the Hero users out there. The delay is due to developing Sence UI to be compatable with the latest version of Android. With the 2.0 delayed, this must also mean that the 2.1 update has also been pushed back. With all the fragmentation going on with Android, its a wonder anyone can develop anything to work with the platform. There had been rumours that the 2.0 update would be skipped and HTC would directly move on to 2.1 but according to out latest data, this doesnt seem to be the case. For now, it looks liked we're stuck with 1.6.

Firefox 3.6 now live

Mozilla has given us a much needed update to its Firefox web browser. Lately Firefox has been gaining weight which seem to be slowing the browser down however it seems Mozilla has put Firefox on a diet as speed has been improved by 20% which is a much needed boost. Also html 5 support has been added for developers. Mozilla seems to be going in the right direction. Hopefully by the time we get to Firefox 4, It will be super fast like Chrome and Opera competitors.

France joins Germany rebellion against Internet Explorer

Germany last week urged it citizens to switch Browser from Microsoft's IE due to a vulnerability which aloud Chinese hackers to attack Google's systems. As Microsoft hasn't still released a patch to fix the fault in IE, France has now started urging its citizens to change browsers. It's a wonder why anybody would use IE in the first place but its a bigger wonder why anyone is still using IE6 in which the hack was discovered for. Maybe hopefully people will notice the big Chrome billboards dotted all over the place.

Steve Jobs a second division footballer...3G dongle is a sex toy

It looks like Brits are a bit behind in the digital age. A survey conducted by Lewis PR, and reported by the BBC show some very startling results. One in ten Brits think Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, is a trade union leader. Even more surprising is that 20 persent didnt even have a clue who he was. One in 20 people though he has a footballer. Maybe secretly Steve really plays for a division two team. However 80 percent of people knew Bill Gates as the founder of Microsoft. Amusingly One in ten people thought a Wireless dongle was a sex toy. I assume thats also going to be the case for the Sony motion wand aswell. This just shows how Brits really need to start reading Tech Right Now.

Sony says no OLED TV's this year... hearts break everywhere

Stan Glasgow, president of Sony USA, has revealed in an interview that no OLED TV's will be launched this year. The problem being that OLED screen are still far to expensive to produce. Hopefully 2011 will bring cheaper productions cost with larger screens as that 11 inch one available now just doesn't cut it anymore even as beautiful as it. Also Sony seems to be pushing that 3D OLED is the future as it will offer better picture quality then current technologies available.

iPhone beats Nexus one by 80x

The most advanced Android phone on the market has got off to a slow start. A very slow start. A snails pace compared to its Apple competitor. Early figures show that only 20,000 in the first week of availabilty were as the iPhone 3GS shifted 1.6 million. The Nexus one's Android brother, the Droid, even managed to ship 12 times as many sets than the Google offering. Even as arguablt the best Android device on the market, its no match in terms of demand against the Goliath from Apple.

XPERIA X2 finally coming to market

The Windows Mobile beast has been on our radar for so long now that we almost forgot about it. However it has jus popped up on the Sony Style site, looking quite gorgeous but is it really worth it after this long wait? With the X10 looking like the more attractive purchase, has Sony Ericsson killed the device before it even released it. Well with Vodafone in the UK dumping the handset, it seems that the odds are against the X2 for making an lasting impression on the market. Plus with MWC just around the corner, the future looks bleak for the X2.

CES: Dell wows us with OLED laptop screens

Try to imagine how thin 2mm is. Now try imagining a laptop with a screen with just 2mm thick. Now why imagine when Dell seems to building the technology for us to one day own. Dell seems to be addicted building very slim products with the Adamo and now Dell seems to want to make the Adamo even thiner. The OLED screen would make shrink the Adamo by 30% aswell boosting battery life as OLED screens doesn't require a backlight. This leads to the proposition of having an anorexic laptop with mind blowing color reproduction with very respectable battery life. Dell is claiming that this is still concept designs but could possibly hit the market in the coming year or so.

CES: PS3 3D hands on

The guys at Cnet managed to get hands on time with the PS3 with 3D setup. Wipeout 3D was taken for a ride and it seems that it is very realistic and immersive. 3D gaming may not seem as gimmicky as first thought. It can provide a very satisfying experience for the most part.  Sony will be pushing a firmware update out later on with the year to enable all PS3's to be 3D compatible which is really going to help boost 3D adoption. However there are going to be certain requirements to be able to play games in 3D. The full requirement list has not been released yet but from what we could gather, a HD ready TV is a must with at least 200Hz motion technology and some sort of polarized glasses. Unfortunately the list of games that will be available at launch is not specified either. The wait goes on.

CES: Trillion color TV from Sharp

Sharp seems to be raising the bar in color reproduction in TV technology. While every other manufacturer seems to be focusing on 3D tech, Sharp have unveiled its new color generating technique which will increase color reproduction from a billion to a trillion. What this means for us is amazing colour depth, more vibrant yellows, blues and golds. They achieved this by adding yellow to the standard RGB pallet that standard TV's use. We can expect to see this new tech on the AQUOS range of TV's in the coming months.

Nexus One on sale. Google officially selling phones

Google has released its Nexus One to the world today at its event in mountain view. The Nexus One is now available at www.google.com/phone for $529 which will get you an unlocked GSM handset which will work in most countries around the world. Google will be partnering with Vodafone in the UK to bring the phone here on contract in the coming months. Nexus One is one of the best Android devices on the market competing with the likes of the Droid/Milestone. Similarly spec'd, its all down to personal choice of having a hardware keyboard or not.

Browser wars: Chrome overtakes Safari

It seems Googles heavy advertising of Chrome is paying off. It has now has claimed third place in the browser market pushing Safari down to number four place. It seems everyone seems to be eating away at Microsofts Internet Explorer market share which is now standing at 62.69. Mozilla's Firefox is claiming 24.61 percent with Google's offering coming up next with 4.63 percent. Apple's Safari is marginally behind with 4.46. Opera is still way behind with only 2.4 percent. Its very impressive what Chrome has achieved with only a relatively short time on the market.
